Requirements:

- CELTA (or an equivalent TEFL qualification) or a pedagogical degree

- C1/C2 level of English

- At least 1 year's teaching experience

About the course:

The International House Certificate in 121 Methodology is designed to give participants a solid grasp of the main issues and techniques involved in teaching 121 whatever their context (e.g. General English in school, General or Business English with executives in company, Home Tuition, YL, etc.).

Contents:

  • Eleven modules (2 hours each), which are a mixture of input, reflection on experience and discussion. The modules focus on the following areas:

1. Overview of the course and 1-2-1 Teaching 7. Written Reformulation
2. First Contact 8. Spoken Reformulation
3. Course Design 9. Learner Training
4. The Teacher and the Learner 10. Projects
5. Materials and Approaches 11. Young Learners
6. The Realities of 1-2-1    
  • Portfolio tasks that apply the module input to the participants’ 121 classes.

  • Pre-session reading and task for each module.

Assessment:

  • A Portfolio compiled over the duration of the course.

  • A final assignment to be completed within two weeks of the end of the course.

Each module of the course has a written assignment, which, when gathered together lead to the course participants’ portfolios. The portfolio tasks, though taking the form of written reports, are focused on experiential and action research task-types.

 

Post-course, course participants have to complete an assignment which demonstrates their learning on the course.
