YL Characteristics and Classroom Management | Teaching kids is different to any other aspect of EFL. It's challenging, but also immensely rewarding and it can be a lot of fun too. In this session we'll look at YL characteristics and their consequences for you as a teacher in the classroom. You'll leave with lots of practical suggestions and ideas for activities that you can use in the classroom. |
Discipline and Boundaries in the YL classroom | Kids hit each other, they rock on their chairs, they don't listen to you or to each other, they use Russian all the time and appear to have absolutely no ability to pay attention at all. One day they're lovely, the next day they're evil. Maybe most of your class are angels, but there is one who drives you, and everyone else, completely up the wall. If any of this sounds vaguely familiar then this session will be relevant for you.
We'll look at why boundaries are important in the YL classroom, why discipline problems usually happen, what we can do to prevent and minimise these problems and how to react as and when stuff does happen. |
Reading and Writing with Young Learners | I Spy presumes that the students are already able to read and write in English. This is not always the case. Mixed ability is a challenge at the best of times, but when the textbook fails to provide direction and materials are thin on the ground, it becomes even more difficult. In this session we'll look at why it's important to introduce literacy into the EFL classroom as soon as possible. We'll look at why it's necessary to employ a systematic approach to literacy development. You'll leave with lots of ideas for activities to make reading and writing fun and engaging for all students, whatever their ability. |
