Teaching at BKC

Working in small towns

If you like a friendly, cosy atmosphere and a close working relationship with just a few colleagues, then you will enjoy teaching in a small town.

If you want plenty of variety in your teaching timetable, you'll get more in a small town.

If you enjoy a more relaxed pace of life than the frantic speed of Moscow, you will enjoy living in a small town.

If you really want to immerse yourself in the Russian language and culture, you can do it better in a small town.

Small towns are not as remote as you might think; in fact all of them are within 40km of the Kremlin. They have the advantage of peaceful and homelike surroundings, and while they are considered satellite schools, they are actually quite close to Moscow.

Locations

Our schools in Zheleznodorozhniy and Zelenograd offer free Russian classes to contract teachers.

A teacher's salary depends on their qualifications and experience. It will definitely enable you to lead a comfortable lifestyle anywhere in Russia especially if your choice is a small town outside of Moscow.

  • Medical support

  • Monthly travel expenses

  • Airport transfer on arrival and completion of the contract

  • Paid induction period upon arrival

  • Free access to email and Internet facilities

  • 24-hour hotline to emergency assistance

Teacher Development

If you are interested in an hourly-paid contract in a small town school could help you with finding accommodation.

Each newly qualified teacher is assigned a mentor to provide guidance and support. Senior educational staff observes your teaching regularly. There are monthly development seminars on a variety of topics, for example teaching pronunciation, activities for YL and using video. Our teacher training department runs externally validated courses in teaching young learners and the Cambridge DELTA. Please see the list of seminar topics for the last academic years here.

Career Opportunities

As the largest school in the former Soviet Union we can offer our teachers excellent opportunities for career advancement. Our Educational Management Team (EMT) consists of Senior Teachers, Assistant Directors of Studies and Directors of Studies. The EMT provides support for teachers and is constantly revising and improving our educational systems and procedures. Although we do recruit senior staff from outside the company we believe strongly in internal promotion and if you are a dedicated ELT professional thinking about a senior position, this is definitely the school for you! We are involved in the annual International House internal transfer system and this year teachers have transferred to IH schools in Portugal, Georgia, Mexico and Algeria. Our school is rated highly by other ELT employers and former teachers and senior staff work all over the world for organisations like Bell and the British Council.
