Seminar title | Description |
| Approaches to Grammar | Grammar is central to language learning so we need to teach it in an effective and affective way. Different teaching models will be compared and critiqued by means of classroom demonstration and video snippets. |
| Implementing Lexical Approach (teaching chunks) | If we accept that lexis is an organizing principle of language, there must be something more to methodology than presenting learners with a massive list of words, fixed phrases, idioms, etc to rote-learn. The teacher's task is to make order out of the chaos and engineer activities which are engaging and meaningful. |
| Cultural Awareness Workshop | This seminar will outline a general framework for comparing and contrasting cultures, the 5Cs approach. Several techniques will be presented and used by the participants to highlight differences between their own and a target culture (Russian?). The more nationalities the merrier. |
| How to Make the Most of the Textbook (Cutting Edge) | We use Cutting Edge to teach higher-level learners.
Do we use it in the same linear way as English File?
What are the approaches to grammar and vocabulary?
How can we exploit the Tasks to their full potential to engage our students and improve their performance?
If you are interested, come to this session! |
| The Ingredients of Being a Good Teacher | Do you remember the difference between good and bad teachers from your school days? We all strive to be the best so this seminar will remind you of the fundamental strategies involved in teaching focusing on classroom management. This seminar is useful for all levels and ages but will centre around teenagers. |
| Teaching Communication — What Does it Involve? | «What is this?» — «It is a pen, Teacher. Are you blind?»
This shows that real communication doesn't always occur in the lesson. What can we do to enable students to communicate in class and real life conditions? Are there any activities which could be particularly helpful? Let us find out at this session. |
