World Englishes | Variation and change are natural by-products of the spread of English as a lingua franca. Diversity is all well and good but it does raise questions about the appropriacy of the language model we choose to adopt for second-language learners. |
Error Correction (What? When? How?) | This session will look at error correction. Why, who, when and how to do it. |
Mixed Ability Classes | Task differentiation is the most effective and efficient way of dealing with mixed-ability groups. Practical examples, on a Christmas theme, of task differentiation will be demonstrated and critiqued. |
Using role plays | In a world of constant alienation and personal dissatisfaction, where the need of becoming someone else is more and more crucial, where the traditional strongholds of society are losing their importance, the only solution seems to be found in role plays. Come and you'll see. |
Placement testing | A chance for new and not-so-new teachers to brush up on the procedure and grading criteria for oral placement tests. |
Teaching Collocation («a bag of tricks») | Defining collocations and teaching collocations to different age and language levels using Lexical Approach--teaching language in «chunks» Come and share your ideas in how to keep students excited learning English and keep enjoying teaching English, even grammar utilizing the collocations! |
Reading in class | You hated reading aloud? You think reading novels and short stories in class is a waste of time? I'll try to persuade you otherwise. — Some practical examples of how to use reading stories, novels etc as a regular feature of your classroom routine. |
Warmers and fillers | Having difficulties starting your lessons off on the right note, or filling those awkward last 10 minutes that weren't there when you planned your lesson? Or do you have any good activities that work to solve these problems? Come and share them with us! This session will be geared towards practical, hands-on activities — and hopefully you will walk away feeling warmed and filled with new ideas! |
Revision lessons | A revision lesson involves much more than giving out a few grammar exercises. In this session we will look at the important things to consider when planning a revision lesson and some activities which revise lots of different language and vocabulary. |
Teaching Business Skills | Are we business soft skills experts? Certainly not, but we can help our students to use their existing business skills in an English speaking context. This session will give some ideas on teaching telephoning, presentations, negotiations etc. |
«Write right». Helping ESL students write well | Find common mistakes in Russian student writing; explore the world of punctuation, coordinating and subordination conjunctions, dependent and independent clauses, and of course, last but not the least, phrases (noun, verbal, adjectival and adverbial). |
