Brad Crews’ impression of Sergiev Pasad
Though this is the third time I've been to Russia, this excursion to Sergiev Pasad was my first trip outside of Moscow, so I was very excited about it. Of course the architecture and museums of Sergiev Pasad are reason enough to make the trip. There is quite a collection of Russian history, culture and artistry bound up in this small village. However, I was just as excited to simply get out of Moscow and see a bit of the Russian countryside for the first time.
Most of the ride to Sergiev Pasad was spent in a beautiful snowstorm and it was wonderful to ride through forests of snow-covered evergreens. We finished the day off at the lonely hillside cathedral at Radonezh. This cathedral stands alone at the edge of a broad, open plain, situated high above a forest of evergreens below. I could easily have spent the entire day here simply sitting on the hillside, daydreaming, watching the river far below as it meandered through the forest.
