Golden Ring trips
'The Golden Ring' is one of the oldest Russian routes. It goes to the north-east of Moscow and forms a circle. There are many interesting ancient Russian cities and towns along the way, full of history and unique Russian architecture of the XII-XVII centuries.
The 'classical' route (counter clockwise) starts from Moscow, goes through Vladimir, Suzdal, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Rostov Velikiy, Pereslavl-Zalesskiy, Sergiev Posad.
Vladimir is the first town of the Golden Ring, 179 kilometers to the east of Moscow with 378 thousand people living there. It is located on the railway to Nizhniy Novgorod, and it is the first stop along the Trans-Siberian route. Vladimir is an old Russian town, it used to be capital of Russia in the 12th century.
Suzdal is a small town in Vladimir region and is located 210 kilometers north east of Moscow.
There are 13 000 people living in Suzdal now.
People were living in Suzdal area already in the beginning of the 9th century, they were doing crafts and cultivating their land. The settlement had trade relationship with the northern countries (Germany) and with the Central Asia.
In historical chronicles of ancient Rus' Suzdal was first mentioned in 1024, when Yaroslav Mudry, the Kiev prince, came there to suppress the riot.
"I thought Suzdal was amazing, a bit like stepping back in time. The wooden huts and the churches were very picturesque, and the tour was interesting. The highlight would have to be the monks singing in the ancient church, I thought that was amazing. Thanks to the organisers, I think everyone had a good time and I hope there is another trip soon!" -Tom Weatherly.
