Initial Arrival

New teachers have a paid orientation period of two days in order to settle into the school and the city. This orientation usually takes place on Thursday and Friday, though may alter depending on time of arrival in Moscow.

During this period teachers are given:

  • an overview of the school

  • an introduction to the course books that we use

  • a detailed explanation of all aspects of their contract

  • Instruction on how to conduct placement tests.

  • Observations of our more experienced teachers to give them an idea of what Russian students are like and the communicative approach used in our classes

After the orientation period teachers are free to enjoy their first weekend in Moscow.

Ongoing Training

On the third Saturday of every month we hold seminars on a range of topics which is often based on feed back of what teachers want. There is usually one in English, which is a common tongue, and we often run an additional seminar in Russian. We also try to cater for specific language points for languages. For example last year there were workshops in Italian and Spanish on different ways of teaching the subjunctive and how to in French there was a workshop on how to make the most of our course book Panorama.

Apart form this, teachers with a knowledge of English may like to take advantage of seminars run on the same day earlier in the afternoon at our sister school. Whilst some of these do inevitably focus on English there are other which focus on methodology and class management. Apart from this we also run specialized courses in English in teaching younger learners and from time to time also have refresher courses in communicative language teaching based at Globus.
