What is the difference between TEFL, TESOL and CELTA Certificates?
TEFL Certificate - teaching English as a foreign language - described the type of teaching i.e. to people whose first language is not English. Some people use this term only when the teaching is taking place in a country where English is not widely spoken e.g. in Russia. Some people distinguish between this EFL and ESL English as a second language i.e. in a country such as the USA, where English is an everyday means of communication. The acronym TEFL by itself is NOT the name of a qualification.
TESOL Certificate - Teaching English to speakers of other languages - This acronym is preferred by people who do not like to make the distinction described above. This acronym by itself is not the name of a qualification.
CELTA Certificate in teaching English to adults. This is the name of a specific initial qualification for teaching English, for instance, in Russia. It is administered by Cambridge ESOL in the UK and is internationally recognised.
