Accommodation
What kind of accommodation do the schools provide?
Usually the school provides the shared accommodation. The flat consists of two rooms. However, you do have the option to find your own accommodation. In this case the school will pay you an allowance of 300 USD a month.
How far will the flat be from the school where I will teach?
You may find that your teaching schedule will be in more than one location. However, we try to find accommodation nearer to the location where you have the majority of hours. Flats are usually within ten minutes walk from a metro station, and total journey times from home to place of work can be form twenty minutes to one hour.
Who will be my flatmate? Do you place flatmates by nationality, age or tastes?
We try to the best of our ability to find compatible flat mates who are why we ask you to specify your preferences e.g. smoke non-smoker. However we do also bear in mind the distance from the school you will most likely be teaching at.
Is the flat equipped with a washing machine?
In general, flats do not have washing machines. We rent accommodation from private landlords and in Russia such devices are not viewed as standard items. In addition, launderettes are virtually non-existent throughout the capital. Consequently, if you don’t fancy the idea doing the washing by hand, we have a rental system which costs $30 per machine. If you decide that you want one in your apartment and come to an agreement with your flatmate this cost can be spilt; if you live on your own then you would pay the whole sum yourself.
Teaching recourses, School Facilities and Curriculum
What resources are available for French/German/Italian/Spanish teachers?
We try to keep the schools as up to date as possible. Teachers have free access to the internet for private use as well as teaching. Materials that we do not have then we try to obtain either in Moscow or when our teachers travel.
Do I need to bring textbooks or others materials from France / Germany/Italy/ Spain?
We have our own set course books and syllabi which have been decided in close consultation with each language department. As such it is not necessary to bring books. However, should you possess or know of a book which you believe could be of value, then contact the school before you arrive to see if we have it. If we don’t, then if you decided to bring a copy we could reimburse you on arrival.
What methods and/or text books are used in the school?
We have details on this in our section on curricula.
Teachers of modern languages
